Royal Wiltshire Militia Officer’s Bell Top Shako circa 1829-35.
A very fine scarce example. Black beaver body with patent leather crown and peak, two patent leather bands either side in the form of a V. To the crown original wool ball tuft of white over scarlet. Original soft leather sweatband to the interior and with crimson silk edging. Please Note there is no shako plate, or ear bosses and chin scales. The shako remains in superb condition. ... Contained in original special shaped Bell Top Shako Tin, this with engraved name plate of “The Honble F.H.P. Methuen Royal Wilts Militia” (2 items)
Frederick Henry Paul Methuen, 2nd Baron Methuen of Corsham was born on 23 February 1818 after being educated at Harrow he passed through the Royal Military Academy. He succeeded to the title of Baron in 1849. He was the father of Field Marshal Paul Sanford Methuen, 3rd Baron Methuen of Corsham who’s uniforms are included in this auction.
