L'œuvre a été réalisée à partir d'une photographie prise par Douglas Duncan, l'un des amis les plus proches et les plus intimes de Picasso. Duncan, photographe de renom, avait pour habitude d'offrir à Picasso des clichés qu'il développait souvent directement sur place, lors de ses visites régulières dans les résidences de l'artiste. Pendant plus de deux décennies, de 1950 jusqu'à la mort de Picasso en 1973, il a immortalisé de nombreux moments de la vie quotidienne du peintre. La photographie utilisée comme base pour ce collage a été capturée alors que Picasso avait 90 ans, offrant un rare aperçu de l'artiste dans les dernières années de sa vie. Ces clichés, témoins d'une profonde complicité, ont été rendus publics en 1988 dans l'ouvrage « Picasso et Jacqueline », un livre qui met en lumière la relation d'amour entre Picasso et sa dernière épouse, Jacqueline Roque. The work was based on a photograph taken by Douglas Duncan, one of Picasso's closest and most intimate friends. Duncan, a renowned photographer, would often give Picasso photographs that he developed directly on site during his frequent visits to the artist's homes. For over two decades, from 1950 until Picasso's death in 1973, he captured many moments of the painter's daily life. The photograph used as the basis for this collage was taken when Picasso was 90 years old, offering a rare glimpse of the artist in his later years. These photographs, testament to a deep bond between the two, were made public in 1988 in 'Picasso et Jacqueline', a book that highlights the loving relationship between Picasso and his last wife, Jacqueline Roque.
