INDIAN COINS, Ancient Coinage, Magadha Janapada (c.600-500 BC), Silver Vimshatika (2), 5.41g and 5.22g, earliest series with four major symbols: six-armed symbol, spoon, sun and dumbell, along with a few bankers’ marks (similar to Rajgor series 10, 45-46; Mitch 3870-3875 var). Both very fine and extremely rare. (2) This earliest series is popularly known as series 0 because it precedes Hardekar’s Gupta series I. An extraordinary rarity probably struck during the reign of Ajatashatru.
