"Parliamentary Papers containing an interesting account of
building the Mombasa Victoria Lake Railway. Includes specifics
of building the railway (e.g., required number of laborers, amounts
of materials needed, etc) as well as detailed accounts of each native
tribe and types of wildlife likely to be encountered while building the
railroad. Also includes a section on the slave trade and 7 coloured maps
of the railway route. The railway went through the Tsavo region, made
famous for two man-eating lions that terrorized railway workers, killing
an unknown number of people, in 1898, only 5 years after the
publication of this report."
