A small hardcover book in the original green cloth binding with titles in black to the spine and front cover. In good condition, firmly bound and with very slight wear to the bottom and corners. The author served as an officer in the Staats Artillerie of the Zuid Afrikaansche Republiek for the duration of the Anglo-Boer War. He kept a diary in which he recorded his experiences during the war, intending to include these in a book. He, however, married at the end of the war and spent many years of service in the Rhodesian Railways. He embarked upon his efforts at writing, with the assistance of Mrs Jackson, after a period of ill health, in 1935.
