DO YOU DANCE MR DARCY?by Caroline Fairbairn1450 mm long x 920 mm high x 700 mm deep, 36 kgMany of Jane Austen's books have dancing as the main theme and the artist was inspired by a quote from Pride and Prejudice - 'To be fond of dancing was a certain step towards falling in love'. A silhouette of Jane inspired the style of the design and as turquoise was one of Jane's favourite colours (as seen in her jewellery) turquoise seemed the best colour choice. Examples of both of these can be seen at Chawton Hampshire at the Jane Austen House Museum.Caroline FairbairnCaroline is an illustrator artist living and working in Hampshire. Publications to date are - An introduction to Decorating and Glazing Pottery; Marching to a Royal Beat by Stephanie Hudson and Noel's Ark by Jamie Brooks. She is currently commissioned as the Afterlife Chronicles designer/illustrator. She painted two of the school's rhinos for Go Rhinos 2013 and was commissioned by Hampshire Cultural Trust to paint 'Reggie' for Zany Zebras 2016. She was also the winner of SO: To Speak Festival of Words 2015 illustration competition.

INFORMATION FOR BUYERS

The following information notes are intended to assist Buyers, particularly those inexperienced or new to our salerooms. All sales are conducted on our printed Conditions of Sale which are readily available for inspection and normally accompany catalogues. Our staff will be happy to help you if there is anything you do not fully understand.

Agency

As auctioneers we usually contract as agents for the seller whose identity, for reasons of confidentiality, is not normally disclosed. Accordingly if you buy, your primary contract is with the seller.

Buyers Premium

There will be no buyers premium (commission) nor VAT on any purchase at this auction - this includes the-saleroom.com

 VAT

We are, primarily, agents for the seller. We are dependent on information provided by the seller and whilst we may inspect lots and act reasonably in taking a general view about them we are normally unable to carry out a detailed or any examination of lots in order to ascertain their condition in the way in which it would be wise for a buyer to do. Intending buyers have ample opportunity for inspection of goods and, therefore, accept responsibility for inspecting and investigating lots in which they may be interested. Please note carefully the exclusion of liability for the condition of lots contained in the Conditions of Sale. Neither the seller nor we, as the auctioneers, accept any responsibility for their condition. In particular, mechanical objects of any age are not guaranteed to be in working order. However, in so far as we have examined the goods and make a representation about their condition, we shall be liable for any defect which that examination ought to have revealed to the auctioneer but which would not have been revealed to the buyer had the buyer examined the goods.

Export of goods

Please be aware that certain items will be subject to export licence conditions. Prospective purchasers must ensure they adhere to any special requirements if taking items abroad. In particular, items containing ivory may be subject to certain export restrictions. The need for export licences varies from country to country and you should acquaint yourself with all relevant local requirements and provisions. Certain lots may also be subject to CITES regulations when exporting items outside the EU.

Bidding

Bidders will be required to register before the sale commences and lots will be invoiced to the name and address on the registration form. Some form of identification may be required if you are unknown to us. Please enquire in advance about our arrangements for telephone bidding.

Commission bidding

Commission bids may be left with the auctioneers indicating the maximum amount to be bid. They will be executed as cheaply as possible having regard to the reserve (if any) and competing bids. If two buyers submit identical commission bids the auctioneers may prefer the first bid received, and if identical, a bid left with the auctioneers will always take priority over an online commission bid. Please enquire in advance about our arrangements for the leaving of commission bids by telephone, email or FAX.

Methods of payment

As a general rule, any cheques tendered will need to be cleared before removal of goods is permitted. Debit or credit card payments are only accepted in person with chip and pin, and will not be taken over the telephone. Payment by bank transfer is our preferred method of payment – please enquire with our office for details of our Bank and account numbers, although these details will be found on your invoice. You will responsible for ALL charges incurred including exchange rate differences and bank charges. Goods will only be released when we have received full clear payment after charges.

Collection and storage

Please note what the Conditions of Sale state about collection an storage. It is important that goods are paid for and collected promptly. Collection should be made by Monday 18th September from The Ark Conference Centre
