At Alnwick Auctions we offer an efficient in-house and non-profit postage service. All packages are priced depending on weight and value. When buying in multiple auctions, we can combine postage to reduce excess packaging and costs; if this is something you are interested in, please let us know. We dispatch all items using Royal Mail Special Delivery or ParcelForce for larger consignments, unless otherwise agreed.
Tracking details are available on request, just drop us an email and we’ll send them over.
All invoices must be paid in full before participating in the next auction. If you are combining postage across multiple sales, items can be held and dispatched together once all invoices are settled.
We offer a minimum insurance of £750, and a maximum of £2500. If your parcel exceeds this value amount, we are happy to split items into multiple parcels covering the full value. Equally, if you buy additional third-party parcel insurance, we are happy to provide details and images as required.
We post items on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Provided payment is received before 1:00 pm, most items can be dispatched the same day. Please ensure you use your reference number when making a bank payment. With bigger items, such as cameras, there may be a longer delay due to the time it takes to pack.
Extra packaging charges will be added to some breakable items / items that need more packing than usual. Royal Mail will not ship any bladed items or lighters, please check that your lots are not prohibited by Royal Mail before requesting shipping. If your lot is on the prohibited list, we are happy to pack it for a customer arranged courier collection. The packing fee is £2.
Europe Union
Due to recent changes in EU packaging and import regulations, we are no longer able to purchase postage to EU member states ourselves.
We are, however, still happy to post your items to the EU provided you supply your own prepaid shipping label. We will package your items and attach your label ready for dispatch - we simply cannot be the party who purchases the label.
Alternatively, EU buyers are very welcome to arrange their own courier to collect their items from us. For either option, we offer a packaging-only service for a fee of £2 - please see “Arrange your own courier” below.
(Non-EU European destinations, such as Switzerland and Norway, may still be available - please contact us for a quote.)
USA
We are happy to post to the USA. Please note that, in line with Royal Mail’s rules, a tariff will be applied to your invoice for shipments to the United States.
Rest of the World
We are happy to post to destinations across the rest of the world. Shipping costs are provided on request, depending on the destination, weight, and value of your items
Please note that any customs duties, bank fees, taxes, or import charges are the responsibility of the buyer and are not included in our shipping costs.

CONDITION OF LOTS.
Viewers are strongly advised to request and obtain a full condition report on selected lots prior to bidding, as descriptions do not necessarily list all faults.
PAYMENTS
We can take payments of up to £300 over the telephone and via our online payment link attached to the invoices sent out immediately after each sale to successful bidders. These limits are set to protect both the customer and ourselves from fraudulent payments.
Any amounts owed that exceed £300 MUST be paid via bank transfer. Unless collecting in person, you may pay cash or card with no limit.
BUYERS.
All bidders are required to be registered with the auction house before bids are made, a paddle number will be allocated to you and this number will be noted by the auctioneer as the hammer goes down.
The buyer's commission is set 20% of the hammer price plus VAT.
We offer an in-house postage service; items can be packed and posted to you at cost. Items are posted using Royal Mail Special delivery. If payment is made before 1pm, in most cases items can be packed and posted the same day. There may be some exceptions as to what we can post so please confer with us before buying. I.e., Batteries. If you would prefer to send your own courier, we will happily package items ready for their collection. Items can also be collected from our premises, we can be open Monday-Friday, 10 am-4 pm. Glass, ceramics or anything breakable cannot be insured, we wrap everything extremely well, we hold no responsibility for anything damaged in the post. Everything is posted at your own risk.
For our bidders outside of the UK, we offer international shipping with Royal mail. The maximum insurance option per parcel is £250. If you are expecting to exceed that amount, please pay attention to the next few sentences. When a parcels value is over £250, we ask that you send us an email confirming you are happy to take responsibility for the difference before we post it out to you. In the case that your parcel exceeds that value, we are happy to split items into multiple packages to increase the insurance level. Or alternatively, we can pack your items ready for a courier to collect.
We offer a phone line bidding service for our items, this works on a first-come-first-served basis.
We offer bidding with easyliveAuction.com and the-saleroom.com Lots can be viewed on any computer connected to the internet and bids can be placed online live as the auction is running. easyliveAuction.com charges 3% on the hammer price, Alternatively, you can opt to pay a £3 Flat Fee charge per auction. The-saleroom charges 4.95% on the hammer price.
Our auctions are always held on a Tuesday, our catalogue can be viewed up to four days before the sale date.
Everything in our auction is sold as seen. We only give a brief description; however, more details and pictures can be sent on request.
No item is the property of the buyer until payment has been made in full nor shall it be removed from the auction house until the item has been presented to the buyer by one of the porters on duty.
If the buyer is unsure of the authenticity of an item, they have 10 days from the date of the sale to return the item/s to us so we can inspect them. After this time, we cannot be held responsible.
The auctioneer can refuse to take a bid off anyone if he has good reason to believe the person will not follow the terms and conditions set above or if the bidder is a former non-payer. This will be executed without prejudice and the auctioneer's decision is final.
Staff members will face off to the cardholder at all points of interaction.
Once an item has been posted, you will be able to contact us in order to get a tracking number.
We will manage all complaints and disputes and take responsibility for chargebacks.
We will account for full ticket price and pay appropriate sales tax on the transaction value as applicable.
COLLECTIONS
Any customers wishing to collect their items in person from the auction house must provide proof of identity. If collecting on behalf of another person, the buyer must inform the Auction House by email that a third party will pick up their lots or the third party must provide a copy of the invoice. No items will be released without this information.
All collections must be pre-arranged with the Auction House.
