RMS Carpathia, Cunard Line, maiden voyage May 5, 1903; sunk July 15, 1918. Salvaged Royal Laboratory, Woolwich arsenal, brass ordinance QF artillery gun shell case. Marked to the underside "'RL', 'III', '1901', ''CFR@' and 'TU 13'. Approx. h. 15.75". Note: Recovered on August 31, 2007, dive eighteen, by the Achilles rover at lat. 49º 22.076' N, long. 10º 41.745' W by an ROV basket. Accession number 07/0068. A conservation/condition report and certificate of authenticity will accompany this lot. Provenance: May 2001, Premier Exhibitions, Inc. acquired ownership of the wreck of the Carpathia, which was sunk by a German torpedo during World War I off the coast of Ireland; February 2007, RMS Titanic, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Premier Exhibitions, Inc., transferred those ownership rights to Seaventures ltd.; August 2007, by previous agreement with Seaventures ltd., Premier Exhibitions, Inc. conducted a scientific research and recovery expedition to the Carpathia, during which this object was recovered and subsequently conserved.
