TWO METAL YATATE (PORTABLE BRUSH AND INK CONTAINERS) Edo period (1615-1868) or Meiji era (1868-1912), mid/late 19th century One of silvered metal, the handle engraved with windswept chrysanthemums and pampas grasses, the ink bowl engraved with butterflies, unsigned, 15.7cm (6 1/8in) long; the second of bronze, the handle carved with a sprig of bamboo between grooves, the ink bowl fitted with a covered compass finial and carved on the surface with the characters for the Junishi (12 animals of the East Asian zodiac); signed on the reverse with chiselled characters Kiryudo; 19.5cm (7 5/8in) long.
