Three portraits of the O`Connell Family by Edward Hayes RHA (1797-1864)

"Three framed watercolour with gouache portraits of the daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter of `The Liberator` Daniel O`Connell. Each signed and with location lower right. 19.50 x 15.25in. (49.53 x 38.74cm) The artist Edward Hayes was born in Tipperary in 1797 and began his artistic career as a miniature painter in Clonmel, Waterford and Kilkenny. A talented artist, he later moved to Dublin expanding his business to include portraits in watercolour and pencil, such as these examples. He was a regularly exhibited his paintings in the Royal Hibernian Academy which included a portrait of Daniel O`Connell in 1833. He was elected a member of the RHA in 1861. He died three years later and is buried in Glasnevin Cemetery, Dublin along with his son Michael Angelo Hayes. "
