Description
A mid 19c French portico clock, the gilt and bronzed brass case having four fluted Corinthian columns supporting a pediment decorated with applied flowerheads with a row of dentil moulding and acanthus leaf decoration above. The stepped base has an applied Greek influenced casting of winged mermaids above another band of acanthus decoration. The 4"" diam gilt engine turned dial has a cast surround of roses and the heavy cast pendulum bob has foliage decoration. The dial is signed `A La Renaissance` 47-49 Rue St Martin, Paris and the circular movement is rack striking on a bell, 23"" tall overall.
