* Kofi Agorsor, (b. Ghana, 1970) Acrylic on canvas 76 x 62cm (29.9 x 24.4in)

Born in 1970 at Akatsi in the Volta Region of the Republic of Ghana, Kofi Agorsor is one of Ghana`s most inventive and lyrical young painters.

After working briefly as a house painter and then a sign-writer, which ignited his interest in art, Agorsor abandoned his studies at the Kpando Technical Institute to enrol at the Ankle College of Art in Accra, where he obtained a Diploma in Art in 1993.

Agorsor`s charming paintings succeed in developing a visual language inspired by Ghanian life that is inclusive and archetypal without being hackneyed. A strong element of formal design is always present in his work with schematic figures set against geometric areas of colour. Cultural aspects of the work are treated lightly; Agorsor is a painter who sets out to entertain and there are strong musical parallels in his work.

The title of Square Market is in itself suggestive of the artist`s process. Where cultural iconography dances with geometric forms to create works that operate on different levels.

A prolific painter, Agorsor has had six solo shows and ten group exhibitions in Ghana as well as exhibiting widely internationally in Togo, Cote d`Ivoire, South Africa, Gaborone, Botswana, Harare, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Italy, and USA.

Please note that in addition to the 20% VAT on the buyer`s premium, import VAT at the rate of 5% will be added to the hammer price. Acquired direct from the artist a private collection, Ghana Click here to view Catalogue
