modelled probably by Johann Joachim Kändler and Friedrich Elias Meyer, with Aeneas bearing his father following the Fall of Troy, on a mound base applied with leaves and flowers, crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue

An example of this figure group is illustrated by Rainer Rückert, Meissener Porzellan 1710-1820, Munich, pl. 242, no. 992; on p. 183 the author mentions that the group was made in two sizes, both with and without a smaller figure of Ascanius to one side.
Cranfield University used non-invasive X-ray fluorescence (XRF) for this lot to screen the green enamel for chromium, which was not detected, a result consistent with 18th century manufacture.
