"Hearing about the death of Mandela didn`t come as a surprise. It was sad news, but his was a timely death.

I can only make a feeble attempt to imagine his circumstances due to apartheid. Personally, this only reinforces my respect for a man who managed to transcend not only his oppressors, but himself, and become a shining example of the altruistic tendencies that all human beings are capable of.

No doubt, he left me inspired. Upon hearing the news of his passing, I decided to pay tribute to his legacy by painting a portrait of him and donating the proceeds to the Nelson Mandela Children`s Fund."
