Regal dinner invitation from Arthur Wellesley, Duke of Wellington, who retained the title ''Prince of Waterloo'' for defeating Napoleon. Partially printed invitation reads in full: ''The Duke of Wellington requests the honor of Mr. Justice Coltmans Marshall to dine and sleep at Stratfield Saye / Company on Wednesday the 26th of February at seven o'clock. Apsley House / The favor of an answer is desired.'' With a note to verso in an unknown hand, ''Hyde Park Gardens / The writing is the Duke's winter of 1840'', presumably dating the invitation. Measures 4.75'' x 3.25''. Some toning, very good condition.
