Terms and Conditions
The Philatelic Auctioneers Standard Terms and Conditions of sale apply, a copy of which is available on request. Placing a bid is your acceptance of these terms. Your statutory rights are not affected.
Murray Payne reserves the right, at its absolute discretion, to refuse to accept any bid on any item.
How to Bid by Post
Simply enter on the Postal Bidding Form the maximum amounts that you are prepared to pay, for as many lots as you wish to bid for, and then return it to us. Please remember to sign the bid form. We will enter these bids on your behalf and will buy at the lowest possible price subject to other bids received and reserves.
Bids can be made in writing, by fax, by email or by telephone. Telephone bids must be confirmed in writing when they will be entered into the auction (but with a date when first notified).
How to Bid Live Online
Murray Payne Ltd offer an online bidding service via the-saleroom.com for bidders.
In completing the bidder registration onwww.the-saleroom.com and providing your credit card details and, unless alternative arrangements are agreed with Murray Payne Ltd. authorise:
1. Murray Payne Ltd, if they so wish, to charge the registered credit card in part or in full payment, including all fees, for items successfully purchased in the auction via the-saleroom.com, and
2. confirm that you are authorised to provide these credit card details to Murray Payne Ltd. through the-saleroom.com and agree that Murray Payne Ltd. are entitled to ship the goods to the card holder name and address provided, in fulfilment of the sale.
Please note that any lots purchased via the-saleroom.com live auction service will be subject to an additional 3% commission charge +VAT at the relevant rate, on the hammer price.
Prices
Estimates given in the catalogue are in GBP (£sterling). All bids must be in GBP and when entered as a bid GBP is assumed.
Bidding Steps
Bids will be increased by the following steps:
• up to £50 in £1 steps
• £50 to £100 in £5 steps
• £100 to £250 in £10 steps
• £250 to £500 in £25 steps
• £500 to £2000 in £50 steps
• £2000 to £5000 in £100 steps
• £5000 to £10,000 in £250 steps
• £10,000 to £20,000 in £500 steps
• Above £20,000 in £1000 steps
Any bids received not conforming to the above will be rounded down to the next bidding step.
Limit Bids
We can place an overall limit on your spending, subject to a minimum of £250. Please contact us if you would like to discuss your individual requirements.
Reserves
Are usually 80%-90% of the estimates. Bids below these levels may not be entered.
Viewing
Items are available for viewing either by post or by prior appointment at our offices. For postal viewing all lots must be returned within 48 hours of receipt (by the viewer) and all costs of transit and insurance are to be paid by the person making the request to view. Note: The person making the request to view is responsible for any loss or damage to the item(s) from time of receipt (by the viewer) to the time of return to Murray Payne offices.
Minors
Bids from minors cannot be accepted unless accompanied by a suitable guarantee.
Value Added Tax (VAT)
All items are sold under the UK 1995 rules for “Global Accounting”. No charge for VAT will be added/deducted to/from your invoice.
Refunds
All lots are offered fully guaranteed but may be returned within 48 hours of receipt, stating the reason for return. However the Buyer will be expected to pay the postage costs both ways, unless the reason for return is due to any fault in the auction lot description.
Extensions
Any request for an Extension for an opinion by an Expert Committee must be made in writing prior to the closing date for bids. We accept BPA (and Murray Payne!) Expertisation. Prior agreement must be sought in writing for any other expert opinions.
Ownership
All items remain the property of Murray Payne Ltd until our bank has received full payment.
Payment
Payment is due immediately upon receipt of invoice. Unless alternative arrangements have been agreed in advance, amounts outstanding after 15 days will be charged interest at the rate of 2½% per month or part thereof.
We accept payments via the following:
• Credit and debit cards (at no extra cost to the buyer). We accept Visa, Mastercard and Maestro and Amex.
• Cash (at Buyer’s risk – we recommend registered post). We accept £sterling, Euros and US $ at current exchange +3%. We regret that we are unable to accept cash amounts in excess of £9000 (Sterling) or its equivalent
• UK Postal Orders
• Bank Transfer (to our UK or US accounts). Please ask for details.
• UK cheques. Please make payable to “Murray Payne Ltd.”.
• Cheques drawn on a US bank (in US$). Please ask for details.
Extended Payments
At our discretion and by prior arrangement.
Postage, Packing and Insurance
Items will be sent by fully insured post. Items will be charged at cost (+£1 to cover packaging etc).
Buyer’s Premium
We do not charge any, other than that levied by the-saleroom.com (3%+VAT) on successful bids when bidding through their live bid platform.
Catalogue Subscriptions
We do not charge a subscription.
