This oil painting of the German painter Franz Seraph Stirnbrand was created in 1834. It shows the portrait of a lady with a large cloth hood and transparent lace sleeves.

The work is signed and dated on verso ‘Stirnbrand […] 1834‘ and is in a very good condition with only slight signs of use. The frame also shows some slight signs of use. A piece of paper with informations about the artist is attached on verso. The canvas dimensions are 72 x 56 cm and the overall dimensions with frame are 92 x 76 cm.



Franz Seraph Stirnbrand (1788-1882)

Stirnbrand was born in Croatia and grew up in Linz, where he began his education as a decoration painter at the age of 17. He fled from military service to Germany and worked in Frankfurt a.M. 1809-1812, where he painted portraits of Napoleon, his wife Marie Louise and other representatives of high aristocracy on tobacco tins. He later moved to Stuttgart and travels to Austria and Paris. Until 1824 he lived in Karlsruhe and painted portraits for the court. In 1824-25 Stirnbrand stayed in Rome and portrayed the Pope Leon XII. (vwe)

Die Leinwandmaße betragen 72 x 56 cm und die Gesamtmaße mit Rahmen betragen 92 x 76 cm.



Franz Seraph Stirnbrand (1788-1882)

Stirnband wurde in Kroatien geboren und wuchs in Linz auf, wo er seine Ausbildung als Dekorationsmaler im Alter von 17 Jahren begann. Er floh vor dem Militärdienst nach Deutschland und arbeitete von 1809-1812 in Frankfurt a.M., wo er Portraits von Napoleon und seiner Frau Marie Louise, sowie weiterer Repräsentanten des Hochadels auf Tabakdosen malte. Später siedelte er nach Stuttgart über und unternahm Reisen nach Österreich und Paris. Bis 1824 lebte er in Karlsruhe und fertigte Portraits für den Hof an. Die Jahre 1824-25 verbrachte er in Rom, wo er Papst Leon XII. portraitierte. (vwe)
