Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810-1892)
Ferdinand Barbedienne was one of the most important bronze foundrymen active in France in the 19th century. In 1839 he associated with the engineer Achille Collas (1795-1859) and founded the company ‘Collas et Barbedienne’. At the beginning they specialized in small-sized bronze casts that reproduced the works of contemporary artists, as well as of ancient Greek and Roman masters. After the death of his partner in 1859, Barbedienne extended his activities towards the casting of monumental bronzes. The company developed into a flourishing business that successfully produced for mainly export markets, since 1870. The outstanding quality of his production was repeatedly rewarded at the universal exhibition, including, for instance, the Grande Médaille d'Honneur in Paris, 1855.

Die beiden Kaminböcke sind in sehr gutem Zustand. Patinierung und Vergoldung wohl erneuert. Die Maße betragen je ca. 60 x 39,4 x 12,5 cm. (nlu)

Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810-1892)
Ferdinand Barbedienne zählt zu den bekanntesten Bronzegießern, die im 19. Jh. in Frankreich tätig gewesen sind. 1839 gründeten Barbedienne und der Ingenieur Achille Collas (1795-1859) ihre Firma „Collas et Barbedienne“ und spezialisierten sich zunächst auf die Herstellung von Bronzegüssen im Kleinformat, mit denen sie die die Werke zeitgenössischer Künstler sowie von antiken griechischen und römischen Meistern reproduzierten. Nach dem Tod seines Partners im Jahr 1859, weitete Barbedienne die Aktivitätsbereiche seines Unternehmens auf monumentale Bronzegüsse aus. Die Kunstgießerei entwickelte sich so zu einem florierenden Unternehmen, das ab 1870 vor allem für den Exportmarkt produzierte. Die herausragende Qualität der Erzeugnisse wurde mehrfach auf der Weltausstellung gewürdigt; darunter zählt zum Beispiel auch die Grande Médaille d’Honneur von Paris, 1855.
