Condition:

The paper is mounted on the upper margin under mat and is in good condition. At the upper margin of the sheet is a small green pen smear noticeable. The upper left edge is minimally trimmed. The frame shows slight traces of use. The sheet measures 24 x 31 cm and the frame 46 x 50 cm.

Anton Zoran Mušič (1909-2005)

Of Slovene descent, Anton Zoran Mušič was born in the Austro-Hungarian town of Bukovica near Gorizia, Italy. He and his family were forced to flee multiple times due to war, occupation, and border changes. From 1930 to 1935, he attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb and travelled extensively afterwards, until he was sent to the Nazi Dachau concentration camp in 1943. After the war, Mušič established an exceptional international standing and was awarded the Prix de Paris in 1951, the Venice Biennial Art Graphic Prize in 1956, and the UNESCO Prize in 1960. He received particular recognition for his works from the 1970s, inspired by Dachau. In 1984, he was appointed Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres, and in 1991, Officier de la Légion d'Honneur. He also received the eminent Prešeren Award for lifetime achievements. Since 1972 his work has been on display in numerous retrospectives. Moreover, Mušič’s works are in the collections of the Tate London, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, and the Victoria & Albert Museum, amongst others.

Anton Zoran Music ist slowenischer Abstammung und wurde in der österreichisch-ungarischen Stadt Bukovica in der Nähe von Gorizia, Italien, geboren.
