Walter Dahn (born 1954)

Walter Dahn is regarded one of the most important representative of the Neue Wilde artists of the eighties. He studied from 1971 until 1979 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Düsseldorf as a master pupil of Joseph Beuys. The first works that he created were drawings and installations. In addition, he makes use of the media photography and video. He was a member of the artist association Mühlheimer Freiheit for three years, together with Hans Peter Adamski, Peter Bömmels and Gerhard Naschberger. In 1982, he was represented at the documenta XII in Kassel. In 1983 and 1984, Dahn received a professorship at the Academy in Düsseldorf. In 1984, the artist took part in the exhibition ‘Von hier aus – Zwei Monate neue deutsche Kunst‘ in Düsseldorf. Walter Dahn is a professor for painting at the Braunschweig University of the Arts. In 2003/2004, he was part of the exhibition ‘Obsessive Malerei – Ein Rückblick auf die Neuen Wilden‘ in Karlsruhe. Works of his are held in the collections of the Groninger Museum (Netherlands), the Neues Museum Weserburg in Bremen and the Städtische Galerie Wolfsburg. (fea)

Die Arbeit zeigt Fehlstellen in den oberen Ecken (bis ca. 3 x 2 cm), einen kurzen Einriss (ca. 0,8 cm) und mehrere Knickspuren mit Sprüngen in der Malschicht im linken unteren Bereich. Der Gesamteindruck ist jedoch gut. Der Rahmen weist kleine Gebrauchsspuren. Das Blatt misst 29,5 x 21 cm. Die Rahmenmaße betragen 69 x 54 cm

Walter Dahn gilt als einer der wichtigsten Vertreter der Neuen Wilden der achtziger Jahre. Er studierte von 1971 bis 1979 an der Kunstakademie Düsseldorf als Meisterschüler von Joseph Beuys. Die ersten seiner Arbeiten waren Zeichnungen und Installationen. Zudem macht er von den Medien Fotografie und Videos Gebrauch. Er war für drei Jahre Mitglied der Künstlergemeinschaft Mühlheimer Freiheit, der auch u.a. Hans Peter Adamski, Peter Bömmels und Gerhard Naschberger
