Dieter Hacker (b. 1942)

A native from Augsburg, Dieter Hacker studied at the Art Academy in Munich from 1960 to 1965, where he attended the class of Ernst Geitlinger. During this time Hacker was involved in the founding of the group ‘Effekt’, which dealt with kinetic installations. In 1970 he moved to Berlin, where he has lived and worked since then. In 1971, Hacker opened the exhibition space ‘7. Produzentengalerie’ and published an associate magazine in the following year. In 1974 Hacker became a visiting professor at the Hochschule für Künste in Hamburg. Between 1977 and 1980 Hacker also created films for the German television. In 1986 he was eventually consulted as a set and costume designer by well-known German theater directors like Frank Patrick Steckel and Herbert King. Dieter Hacker is a professor at the Hochschule der Künste Berlin, since 1990.

Der gebürtige Augsburger Maler Dieter Hacker studierte von 1960 bis 1965 an der Akademie der Bildenden Künste in München und besuchte dort die Klasse von Ernst Geitlinger. In dieser Zeit war Hacker an der Gründung der Gruppe „Effekt“ beteiligt, die sich mit kinetischen Installationen befasste. 1970 zog der Künstler nach Berlin, wo er seither lebt und arbeitet. 1971 eröffnete Hacker die 7. Produzentengalerie, deren Zeitung er im Jahr darauf erstmals herausbrachte. 1974 wurde er als Gastprofessor an der Hochschule für Künste in Hamburg tätig. Von 1977 bis 1980 schuf Hacker Filme für deutsche Fernsehanstalten. 1986 wurde er als Bühnen- und Kostümbildner von bekannten deutschen Theaterregisseuren wie Frank Patrick Steckel und Herbert König engagiert. Seit 1990 ist Dieter Hacker als Professor an der Hochschule der Künste Berlin tätig.
