This abstract composition in impasto applied bright colors in mixed media are characterized by vigor and spontaneity. Stylistically corresponding to the art informal, which is characterized by spontaneous improvisation, this piece of work can also be described with the term lyrical abstraction. Artists such as Georges Mathieu or Bernard Schultze were also representatives of this style.

Rudolf Baerwind (1910-1982)

Rudolf Baerwind was born in Mannheim in 1910. He studied at the Art Academies of Munich, Berlin and Paris. At first his works were influenced by the early Expressionism and Surrealism. While he was living in Paris and Mannheim in the 1950s and 60s his art was affected by the Art Informel. His paintings are mainly characterized by abstract, nonrepresentational forms. (tm)
