Condition:

The drawing is in good overall condition. The paper is somewhat discolored and slightly soiled in parts. The lower-right edge of the sheet is somewhat stained. The left margin is slightly wavy. The sheet measures 43.5 x 38.1 cm, the frame 44.1 x 38.8 cm.

Bernard Schultze (1915-2005)

Bernard Schultze studied at the Hochschule für Kunsterziehung in Berlin and the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. In 1952 he founded with Karl Otto Götz, Otto Greis and Heinz Kreutz the artist group called ‘Quadriga’, one of the major representatives of the German Informal Painting. In 1968, he moved to Cologne. His works show strong influence by WOLS and the Tachism, yet he developed his very own style, often described as gestural and lyrical abstract painting.

Zustand:

Die Zeichnung ist in gutem Gesamtzustand. Das Papier ist etwas gebräunt, bzw. partiell leicht verschmutzt. Die untere rechte Blattkante ist etwas fleckig. Der linke Rand ist leicht gewellt. Die Blattmaße betragen 43,5 x 38,1 cm. Der Rahmen misst 44,1 x 38,8 cm.

Bernard Schultze (1915-2005) studierte an der Hochschule für Kunsterziehung in Berlin und an der Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf. 1952 gründete er zusammen mit Karl Otto Götz, Otto Greis und Heinz Kreutz die Künstlergruppe „Quadriga“. Er war ein bedeutender Vertreter der deutschen informellen Malerei. Nachhaltig beeinflusst von WOLS (Otto Wolfgang Schulze) und dem Tachismus, entwickelte Bernard Schultze einen sehr eigenen Stil der gestisch abstrakten Malerei, die häufig als lyrisch abstrakt bezeichnet wird.
