The drawing is in overall very good condition with only very occasional insignificant specks of foxing. The sheet is hinged to a mat at the reverse upper corners. The frame is in good condition with slight signs of wear. The sheet measures 16.3 x 28.6 cm. The framed dimensions are 40 x 55.5 cm.

Julius Heinrich Bissier was born 3rd December 1893 in Freiburg, Breisau. He died 18th of June 1965 in Ascona. He was a German painter. He married Elisabeth Hofschneider in 1922. The couple became known for a number of tapestry pieces. Bissier studied in Freiburg and Karlsruhe until he was called upon for military duty. He exhibited his works in the 1920s, resulting in national acclaim. In the 1930s he and his wife started a textile workshop, which quickly became one of the most prominent outlets for hand-woven pieces. International acclaim only came in the 1950s when Bissier exhibited at the Kestner-Gesellschaft in Hannover. He became a member of the academy of arts and continued exhibiting internationally (fea)
