Condition:

The painting is in a good condition, showing minor abrasion of the paint. The paint surface is slightly darkened. No evidence of retouching under UV light. The frame is slightly worn. The dimensions of the painting are 48 x 78.5 cm, while the frame measures 67.7 x 97.5 cm.

Alexander Evgenievich Iacovleff (1887-1938)

Born in St. Petersburg, the painter, draftsman and designer Alexander Evgenievich Iacovleff studied at the local Russian Academy of Arts from 1905 to 1913. One of his teachers was Dmitri Kardovski. During his studies, he became a member of the ‘Mir Iskusstva’ group [World of Art]. Along with Kardovski, Nikolai Radlov and Vasily Ivanovich Suchaev, he founded the St. Petersburg ‘Guild of St. Luke’. After the October Revolution, he went to France and took the French nationality. In the 1920s, Iacovleff worked as an artistic adviser to the car company Citroën and made several expeditions, including to Madagascar, Syria, Iran, Mongolia and China. His works of this period are therefore often held in the style of Orientalism. From 1934 to 1937, Iacovleff was the head of the department of painting at the Art School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. He spent the end of his life in Capri and Paris. Alexander Evgenievich Iacovleff (1887-1938)

Der St. Petersburger Maler, Zeichner und Designer Alexander Evgenievich Iacovleff studierte von 1905 bis 1913 an der Russischen Kunstakademie seiner Heimatstadt, unter anderem bei Dmitri Kardovski. In seiner Studienzeit wurde er Mitglied der Künstlergruppe „Mir Iskusstva“ [Welt der Kunst]. Mit Kardovski, Nikolai Radlov und Vasilij Ivanovic
