Jock Carroll’s photographs of Marilyn Monroe are internationally renowned and were published in the book ‘Falling For Marilyn: The Lost Niagara Collection’ in 1996

In 1952, Jock Carroll was commissioned to accompany Marilyn Monroe during the filming of ‘Niagara’ at the famous falls in Canada. His series of photographs is characterized by numerous very private snapshots comparable to the present work, depicting the actress on the edge of a jetty in front of the boat ‘Maid of the Mist’ with the Niagara Falls visible in the background.

This gelatin silver print shows the copyright stamp ‘CREDIT TO READ: © Jock CARROLL / Time Inc.’ as well as a copyright stamp of the TIME LIFE Syndication and the label of the ‘Agenzia Masi’, Milan on the reverse. It is further inscribed in black pen ‘Actress Marilyn Monroe on dock, leaning on the side of boat, „Maid of the Mist“, w. Niagara Falls visible in bkgrd. during break from filming “Niagara”; Canada.’

Condition:
The photograph is overall in very good condition with tiny bumped spots at the corners. The image measures 24 x 16.7 cm, the sheet is 25.3 x 20.3 cm.

Jock Carroll (1919-1995)
The Canadian photographer Jock Carroll started his career as a war correspondent and RCAF pilot. He then focused on writing and photo journalism for different media in Canada. Carroll was a member of different associations, including the Toronto Men’s Press Club and the Author’s League of America. He published 6 books and is still internationally renowned for his work. 1952 begleitete Jock Caroll die Drehaufnahmen zu Marilyn Monroes Film „Niagara“ und hielt die Diva in zahlreichen privaten Momenten auch jenseits der Filmkamera fest. Bei dem vorliegenden Schnappschuss handelt es sich um ein typisches Bild dieser Serie und zeigt Marilyn auf dem Bootssteg vor dem Boot „Maid of the Mist“ mit den Niagarafällen im Hintergrund.
