An absolute must for art deco devotees. Josef Lorenzl has succeeded in conveying the effortless elegance and tenderness of a young woman, which he underscored with subtle eroticism

This bronze was designed by the Austrian sculptor and ceramic artist Josef Lorenzl (1892-1950) around 1920. Typical for the Art Deco Design is the expressive and at the same time delicate pose in which Lorenzl seemingly holds the fraction of a moment.



The bronze is signed on the plinth and mounted to an onyx base. It is in very good overall condition with minor signs of age. Height: 26 cm.



Josef Lorenzl (1892-1950)

Josef Lorenzl was born in 1892 in Vienna. He began his training in the bronze foundry in the Vienna Arsenal, and in his later years he became renowned for his excellent Art Deco sculptures in chryselephantine technique, which mostly represent dancers. Lorenzl also worked as a ceramic artist for the renowned factory of Friedrich Goldscheider, for whom he created his most famous character, namely the representation of the dancer Niddy Impekoven in her role of the ‘Captive Bird'. Josef Lorenzl was one of the most famous artists of the Art Deco alongside with Ferdinand Preiss and Demetre Chiparus.
