This print was created in 1972 in the printing studio of Jacques Rigal as a heliography after a drawing by Salvador Dalí. The artist then revised the printing plate with drypoint. Thus Dalí enriched the drawing with a rider on a horse, which can be seen on the right.
The heliography with drypoint is signed lower right in pencil ‘Dalí’ and inscribed lower left in pencil ‘E.A’. The sheet shows a short tear (1.1 cm) in the left edge as well as occasional handling creases - especially at the lower edge and two small faint foxmarks upper right within the plate border. It is affixed to a mat along the reverse edges. The frame is in good condition with minor signs of wear. The plate measures 44.4 x 59.7 cm, the sheet 75.8 x 53.5 cm. The framed dimensions are 79.5 x 98 cm.
Salvador Dalí (1904-1989)
The Spanish painter, printmaker and sculptor Salvador Dalí was one of the main representatives of Surrealism. Already during his school days he took private painting and drawing classes and studied from 1922 at the Academia San Fernando in Madrid, but was expelled for disorderly conduct in 1926. In 1929, Dalí joined the Surrealists in Paris and met Gala, his muse and future wife. Today his dreamy works, influenced by the unconscious, are displayed in collections of important international museums. Salvador Dalí is known as one of the most famous artists of the 20th Century.
