Buyers

Gavills Limited give notice that every auction and these conditions of sale shall be governed by English law and subject to the jurisdiction of English Courts. Gavills acts as agent for the seller and are the auctioneer.

The auctioneer reserves the right to sell subject to the reserve price and advance the bidding at his discretion.

All parties wishing to bid need to register for a bidding number including proof of identity and a credit card or debit card in their name.

The auctioneer may combine lots or split lots without notice and withdraw items at his discretion.

The highest bidder shall be the purchaser and in the event of dispute the Auctioneer shall have sole discretion to settle it or reoffer the lot. The auctioneer may refuse to accept the bidding of any person.

At the fall of the hammer the lot is considered delivered to the purchaser and the purchaser shall be responsible for payment at the end of the auction.

The purchaser shall remove purchases within seven days. Thereafter the purchaser is liable for storage charges at £2 per day per lot together with any charges relating to removal of the lot.

No item may be removed from the saleroom until monies due from the buyer have been paid and cleared by the bank.

Vintage electrical items are usually sold tested according to safety regulations. Light fittings that require connection are the responsibility of the buyer.

Many of the items sold are old and fragile people handling/ examining goods do so at their own risk and are responsible for damage caused.

Buyers shall pay to the auctioneer a premium of 15% plus vat when attending in person.

Online Bidding

Gavills offer an online bidding service via the-saleroom.com for bidders who cannot attend the sale.

In completing the bidder registration on www.the-saleroom.com and providing your credit card details and unless alternative arrangements are agreed with Gavills:

1.            Authorise , if they so wish, to charge the credit card given in part or full payment, including all fees, for items successfully purchased in the auction via the-saleroom.com, and

2.            confirm that you are authorised to provide these credit card details to Gavills through www.the-saleroom.com and agree that Gavills are entitled to ship the goods to the card holder name and card holder address provided in fulfilment of the sale.

Please note that any lots purchased via the-saleroom.com live auction service will be subject to an additional 3% commission charge + VAT at the rate imposed on the hammer price.

 

Artists resale rights apply to art works selling above 1000 euros and where the artist is still living. It is payable at 4% of the hammer price excluding buyers premium and paid in sterling and is passed to the Design and artists copyright society. For more info see www.dacs.org.uk.

Cites regulations apply to certain items of animal origin if they are to be exported from the UK more information can be found at www.cites.org.

Descriptions reflect the opinion of Gavills the purchaser is responsible for satisfying themselves with regard to authenticity and condition prior to the sale items are sold as they are.

For works of art where the full name of the artist is listed this is in our opinion a work by the artist.
