'Peter McLeavey has hung his first exhibition for the year. It is of 14 recent paintings by Auckland artist Don Binney, eight on the theme of "A tree, of many, one" and six in a series on "A single field"…Cleared land on Puketotara is the subject for "A single field paintings".
One of the most beautiful of the paintings is "Puketotara once bittern" ($580), the study of a standing bird, graceful neck extended, merging in outline and colour into the lines of the landscape."
- But there's a Tree, of many one,
A single Field which I have looked upon,
Both of them speak of something that is gone:
The Pansy at my feet
Doth the same tale repeat:
Whither is fled the visionary gleam?
Where is it now, the glory and the dream?
William Wordsworth, Ode on Intimations of Immortality from Recollections of Early Childhood
