A VERY RARE CASED 50-BORE PENNELL PATENT 'HAMMERLESS' SIX-SHOT SELF-COCKING PERCUSSION REVOLVER
RETAILED BY EGAN, BRADFORD, CIRCA 1853-4
With blued octagonal sighted barrel signed by the retailer, engraved with scrollwork at the breech and a band of foliage at the muzzle, and cut with multi-groove rifling, the barrel-block shaped and slotted for the attachable patent rammer and with blued pivoting barrel locking-catch marked 'PATENT', plain cylinder, case-hardened border and scroll engraved frame fitted with a belt-hook on the left side and with sprung hammer-safety, the top of the frame engraved 'PATENT', finely chequered figured walnut butt, silver escutcheon engraved 'J Schlesinger Bradford', border and scroll engraved trigger-guard, and butt-cap with hinged trap-cover engraved with a flower-head, the barrel and frame each retaining much original finish, Birmingham proof marks, in lined and fitted mahogany case, probably original, with accessories including revolver flask and Tranter patent double-cavity brass bullet mould, the exterior of the case lacking escutcheon
