A COMPOSITE LEFT-HAND DAGGER, AND A STILETTO
THE FIRST GERMAN OR ITALIAN, LATE 16TH CENTURY, THE SECOND ITALIAN, MID-17TH CENTURY
The first in excavated condition, with tapering double-edged blade of flattened hexagonal section, iron hilt with vertically recurved quillons and a ring-guard, the latter filled with a plate pierced with dots, wooden grip retaining some wire binding, and associated pommel incised with lines; the second with slender blade of triangular section with a turned moulding at the neck, small swelling spirally-fluted quillons, matching pommel, leather-covered grip bound with brass bands, in black leather-covered scabbard, probably original
