AN EXTREMELY RARE SPANISH GOLD-MOUNTED MADRID-LOCK PISTOL
BY GREGORIO LOPEZ, DATED '1803'
With highly ornate flat bevelled lock signed 'GREGORIO LOPEZ' and dated 'ANO DE 1803' between the arms of the steel-spring, the plate, cock, priming-pan and steel each finely chiselled in low relief with foliage against a gilt stippled ground, figured walnut full stock carved in relief with a spray of flowering foliage behind the barrel-tang, cast and chased gold mounts including trigger-guard with urn finial, solid side-plate bordered by a band of running foliage, and spurred pommel with a cap decorated in low relief with flowering foliage, bright two-stage barrel, and later ramrod with engraved gilt mounts, the barrel, stock, barrel-band and ramrod-entry pipe almost certainly early replacements
