BY JOSEPH PAPOV, TBILISI, DATED '1877'
With broad double-edged of flattened diamond section, characteristic hilt comprising nielloed silver guard decorated with bands of beads and panels of scrollwork, natural staghorn grip-scales, and exposed tang and large domed rivets each decorated with silver-damascened foliage, in original wooden scabbard with later textile covering, the locket of nielloed silver decorated en suite with the guard and stamped on the reverse with maker's mark of Joseph Papov, the date '1877', silver standard mark '91', and the Tbilisi silver Control Chamber mark of St. George of Tbilisi along with the inspector's mark of Iegor Blumberg, the suspension-band and chape with further silver-damascened foliage
