Campo Del Cielo Meteorite, Campo Del Cielo is an impact crater in Argentine. It is located near the village of Chorotis. The crater is 50 meters in diameter and the age is estimated to be up to 4,000 years old (Holocene period). This meteorite was first discovered in 1572 by Spanish explorers in Chaco, Argentina. Thousands of pieces have been found, the largest weighing 35 tons. These Campos are found in the lowlands and have been immersed damp soil for centuries and as a result have a lot of rust. It has been concluded that the Campo del Cielo parent meteoroid must have been a >210cm radius body with a mass of more than 300 tons. These results place Campo del Cielo as one of the largest iron meteorites that has been recovered, 15cm H.
