WW1 Period 20th Hussars Officer’s Sword by Henry Wilkinson.
A good example of the Heavy Cavalry pattern Officer’s Sword carried by Captain Daniel Spencer Peploe of the 20th Hussars. The blade with etched decoration of a Crowned GVR cypher, a 20th Hussars regimental device, owners initials of “D.S.P.” also with the cutler’s details of Wilkinson and blade number 43201 (1911). The hilt of the Heavy Cavalry pattern, with the scarce feature of the Wilkinson metal patent tang grip. Housed in polished brown leather field service scabbard. The metalwork now with an overall black patina, etching remains clear.
Captain Daniel Spencer Peploe was born in October 1891 and was commissioned into the 20th Hussars in September 1911. At the outbreak of the Great War he was serving with the rank of Captain and landed in France with his Regiment on the 18th August 1918. Surviving the war he died in 1958.
