19th Century American Officer’s Eagle Headed Sword.
A very fine quality example, the narrow single edged blade with etched decoration depicting a National Eagle and motto, floral decoration and the head of a warrior wearing feather head-dress. The hilt with fine gilt cross guard, terminating with acorn finial, one supporting a two chain guard, secured to the beak of the eagle head pommel, this surmounting a white bone carved grip. The crossguard is also fitted with shield langets, embossed with a five pointed star. Housed in original gilt metal scabbard with engraved decoration depicting a National Eagle and shield. Gilt remains bright, with minor wear, blade in clean condition.
