Napoleonic War Period 1796 Officer’s Light Cavalry Sword.
A good example by Osborn & Gunby, the single edged curved blade with half length engraved decoration depicting a Crowned GR cypher, a mounted cavalry Officer and the cutler’s details. The single bar guard is of regulation pattern with leather covered grip and copper twist binding. Housed in black leather and gilt mounted scabbard. This fitted with two loose rings and a frog button. Overall GC only traces of blue and gilt decoration remain, gilt worn to base metal. The leather remains supple.
