Nottinghamshire Militia Georgian Officer's gilt open-back coatee button.. A fine scarce convex example by Firmin & Westall, Strand. Incised star with 'Nottingham' circlet; crown to lined centre. Complete with shank. Minor service wear. VGC (approx. 19 mm). Raised 1775; redesignated Royal Sherwood Foresters or Nottinghamshire Regt. of Militia in 1813; became 4th Bn. Derbyshire Regt. on Friday 1st July 1881. 'Royal' granted by Prince Regent in 1813 for Public Duties performed at the Tower of London, Bank of England etc.
