Fine Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action Sporting Rifle, 1898 Serial number 116265, .45-70 caliber, blued octagonal steel barrel with Lyman combination front sight and adjustable rear leaf sight, the top of the barrel marked '-MANUFACTURED BY THE-/-WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A.-' and full-length magazine tube; richly case colored frame with brightly blued loading door, the frame tang marked '-MODEL 1886-' and the underside tang marked 'PAT.OCT. 24. 1884./JAN.20. 1885', case colored hammer, loading lever and nose cap; walnut stock with butt slightly shortened and blued steel butt plate. Any city or state regulations regarding owning antique firearms are the responsibility of the purchaser.** Condition: Barrel bluing is excellent traces of thinning on the sharp edges, magazine tube bluing is excellent; case colors on the frame are strong and bold with only minor thinning where the front of the frame meets the for end and minor blemishes on the underside, loading door shows virtually no wear; case color on hammer is excellent with an area of wear on the left side, case color on the lever is very good with thinning on the inside and underside of the bow, trigger color is strong; stock has scattered blemishes and a few dings and dents; butt plate is a period replacement applied when the stock was slightly shortened to fit the owner and there is an associated patch at the top where the original tang would have been inlet; bore is bright bore with sharp rifling, action functions properly.
