A Rare Pair Of Turkish 32-Bore Flintlock Silver-Gilt Mounted Over-And-Under Holster Pistols
A Rare Pair Of Turkish 32-Bore Flintlock Silver-Gilt Mounted Over-And-Under Holster Pistols 19th Century With three-stage barrels each retained by a border engraved band at the muzzle and girdle decorated with a crescent moon and stars, octagonal breeches gold-damascened with martial trophies, a gold-damascened starburst towards each muzzle, tangs, cocks and flat bevelled locks decorated en suite, the last each with sliding pan-cover to expose the touch-hole for the lower barrel, figured full stocks inlaid with silver wire scrollwork (minor losses) enriched with small foliate engraved silver panels, and with a sun-in-splendour and a crescent moon on the back of the butt, mounts cast and chased in low relief with martial trophies and comprising side-plates, escutcheons, spurred pommels each struck with Turkish silver marks on the spurs, trigger-guards en suite, no provision for ramrods, and retaining much original gilding, spurious London proof marks (2) 28.5 cm. barrels Footnotes: Provenance Christie's London, Quai d'Orsay, Paris - An Apartment by Jacques Grange, 19 November 2010, lot 626 Cf. a related blunderbuss sold in these Rooms, Antique Arms and Armour, 2 December 2004, lot 90 This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: * * VAT on imported items at a preferential rate of 5% on Hammer Price and the prevailing rate on Buyer's Premium.
