Information
A buyers premium of 12% (15% for live internet bidders, see section 17) will be added to the sale price of each lot.
Viewing. All banknote lots and the other easy to carry lots will be available for viewing at the York Fair on 20th and 21st of July. If you want to see any specific lots (other than banknotes), please ring or e-mail us at least two days before the Fair and we will bring them along. All lots can be viewed on the day of the sale.
Photos of Lots. We have illustrated a number of lots in this catalogue (those with a P after the lot number). The catalogue on www.the-saleroom.com has photos of most single-item lots. You can go onto the-saleroom.com site and look at the photos. You don’t have to bid through the site.
After each sale, we have about 12 hours of paperwork to do before we know if you have been successful in your bids. This means that we do not know who bought what until sometime on the Tuesday following the sale. If you ring on Sunday or Monday, we probably will not answer the telephone. If you must ring us, please do not ring before the Wednesday following the sale.
Holidays. If you are going to be away on holiday just after the sale date, send in your bids early and let us know if you want any successful lots posted when you return from your holidays.
Credit Cards & PayPal. The charge for Credit Cards is 3.5%. There is no charge for Debit cards. Foreign debit cards will be charged the same as U.K. credit cards (3.5%). Some debit cards cannot be distinguished from Credit cards by the number alone. You must tell us if your card is a Debit card. If you do not, we will treat it as a credit card. To summarize: we can accept Mastercard, Access, Visa, Delta, Switch, Maestro. If you are paying by Switch, Maestro, we also need your Issue Number if you have one. We can accept payment by PayPal. The charge is 4%. If you intend to pay by PayPal, please mention this on your bid form. PayPal tells us that you can now use their secure facilities whether or not you are registered with them.
Internet users. If you are biding live on the day through the-saleroom.com we will have access to your credit/debit card details. We may also have these if you place your bids on our website. However, WE DO NOT AUTOMATICALLY CHARGE YOUR CARD FOR YOUR PURCHASES. We always send you an invoice first to give you the option of paying by card, cheque or PayPal. Your invoice is sent by e-mail so watch for it.
Overseas bidders. If you live in a country where the post is slow, and you do not get your catalogue until a few days before the sale date, please telephone, FAX or e-mail your bids. If you telephone, we will need confirmation in print, but this can be a few days after the sale date. Our exclusive FAX number is +44 191 413 2957, so you can FAX us at anytime of the day or night. Postal Buyers. It takes about seven days for us to complete the first round of posting invoices and lots. We start with the buyers who have sent blank cheques or credit/debit card details and work through them in alphabetical order. Then we deal with the others, also in alphabetical order. So, if your name begins with ‘A’, and you have sent a blank cheque or are paying by credit/debit card, and your lots weigh less than one kilogram, you should get your lots within a few days of the sale date. If your name begins with ‘Z’, and you have not sent a blank cheque, and your lots have to be shipped by parcel post (which can take up to a week to be delivered), you will get your lots about two weeks after the sale date.
Postal Bidders. Many of our postal bidders already send a signed, blank cheque with their bids. If you do, you will receive your lots within a few days of the sale date. Cheques should be made payable to B. FRANK & SON, signed and endorsed with the limit of your total bids plus an allowance for postage and packing (see below). We then fill in your cheque for the total of your purchases and send your lots straight away. If you are completely unsuccessful in your bids, we return your cheque to you. We will also deal with card payments and PayPal in the same way and send your lots straight away without sending an invoice first.
Postage charges. The minimum inland postal charges are as follows:
First Class – £1 Recorded -- £2 Special Delivery -- £6
These have not increased despite the 15% to 20% increase by the Post Office since our last sale. If you live in London (E, EC, N, NW, SE, SW, W, WC) the Post Office has decided that you need to be ripped off by them as well as others during the Olympic period (27 July to 9 September, 2012) and so will charge an additional £1 for all parcels. Also, there will only be a next day guarantee for Special Delivery, rather than by 1pm. This does not mean that the packet will get to you the next day, it only means they will make some small effort to deliver it by then. (A recent Special Delivery of sovereigns to us from Yorkshire took two days to arrive.) To overseas buyers we charge the actual postage. Please complete the “postal instructions” on your bid form.
Our next sale will be in October/November. If you have any items for this sale, we will need them by early September, but please send them as soon as possible, NOW would be a good time. We are especially needing the following:

Our commission for selling is 8% of the hammer price for British pre-decimal coins which have a value of £10 or more each (this includes Scottish and Irish hammered coins). For all other items our commission is 12% for items without a reserve and 15% for items with a reserve.

Terms and Conditions
INFORMATION AND CONDITIONS OF SALE
1. The highest bidder will be the buyer. If there is any dispute, the auctioneer’s decision will be final.
2. The auctioneer has absolute discretion to divide, combine or withdraw any lots and to refuse bids or regulate the bidding.
3. All lots are subject to any reserve price imposed by the seller and to the right of the seller to bid either personally or through any one person who may be the auctioneer.
4. All description and grading will be done by the auctioneers. Each lot is believed to be genuine, unless otherwise described. If any lot is not as described, the buyer may return it by insured post in its original condition within three days of receiving it.
5. Lots not fully described or graded will not be subject to the usual approval term and will not be returnable for refund.
6. Lots described with defects may not be returned by reason of that defect.
7. The auctioneers will only act as agents between the vendor and the purchaser and will not be responsible for disputes which arise between them.
8. Successful postal bidders will receive an account as soon as possible after the sale date. The full payment, including post and packing charges, should then be sent to the auctioneers, who will forward the lot(s) to the purchasers. Should any lots not be satisfactory they must be returned by insured post within three days of receiving them.
9. At the discretion of the auctioneers, cheques may be cleared before lots are sent to the purchaser.
10. Any person bidding for a third party shall be personally liable for any purchases.
11. Postal purchasers should send for lots immediately upon receiving their accounts. No approval time will be allowed for lots sent for after 5 days of receipt of accounts. If, after receiving their accounts, purchasers do not send for their lots within 10 days, any future bids may be disregarded, and the auctioneers will dispense with the lots without notice to the original purchaser.
12. Floor purchasers may pay for and collect their lots at any time during the sale. They must pay for and collect their lots no later than immediately after the sale.
13. By making a bid the buyer acknowledges his acceptance of these conditions.
14. We do not accept “BUY” bids.
15. Telephoned bids must be confirmed by letter, FAX or e-mail and the confirmation received by the sale date.

17. We offer an online bidding service via the-saleroom.com for bidders who cannot attend the sale. In completing the bidder registration on www.the-saleroom.com and providing your credit card details and unless alternative arrangements are agreed with B. Frank & Son you: A. Authorize B. Frank & Son, if they so wish, to charge the credit card given in part or full payment, including fees, for items successfully purchased in the auction via the-saleroom.com, and, B. Confirm that you are authorized to provide these credit card details to B. Frank & Son through www.the-saleroom.com and agree that B. Frank & Son are entitled to ship the goods to the card-holder name and card-holder address provided in fulfilment of the sale. Any lots purchased via the-saleroom.com live auction service will be subject to an additional 3% commission charge + VAT (= 3.6%) on the hammer price.
18. Please observe the following bid steps:
Bids not conforming to these £1 steps to £20
steps will be reduced to the £2 steps from £20 to £100
nearest acceptable bid. £5 steps over £100, or at the discretion of the auctioneer
19. All postal bids will be considered as if the bidder were present. Each lot will be sold at the first step above the second highest bid, or at reserve, unless a bid from the floor exceeds this amount. If we receive two or more equal bids in the post, the first to arrive takes precedence.
20. Postal bidders may place a limit on their total purchases. If so, they must indicate their limit on the bidding form.
21. Payment in £’s Sterling (GBP) is preferred. For overseas postal buyers without a Sterling account, credit card details or PayPal is the best way to remit. We will accept cheques in US$’s drawn on a U.S.A. bank. All US$ cheques will be cleared before lots are sent to the purchaser. This takes approximately three weeks. We can accept cash in all Western European currencies and in U.S.A. and Canadian dollars. If you pay in currencies other than £’s Sterling, please add the equivalent of £10 for conversion charges. Some banks, e.g. in Middle East Countries, charge more, so please enquire.
