Red Grooms (b. 1937)
Red Grooms studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and at the Peabody College in his hometown of Nashville. In 1958, Grooms had his first solo exhibition as an artist in Provincetown, Massachusetts, where the first ‘happenings’ took place. Grooms was fascinated by the possibilities of three-dimensional. During the 1960s, he produced numerous sculpted prints or sculpto-pictoramas. As his artwork progressed, he continued to explore various media. Through his work in various dimensions, Grooms deals with conflicts in urban American life in a humorous and satirical way.
