Owen Jones (British, 1809-1874)
Jones was a capable architect, designer and theorist of the 19th century. His designs often took inspiration from the Islamic world, leading Jones to experiment with mosaics and tessellated pavements and tiles. Jones’ creative use of color and pattern brought him to the attention of Prince Albert and resulted in Jones’ invitation to decorate the interior of the 1851 Great Exhibition building. Jones went on to bring new principals for design into his teachings for the Government School for Design and as a key figure in the founding of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Jones’ theories on flat patterning and ornament still resonate today.
Condition
Scuffing to the covers with wear and small losses to the spine, which was previously re-backed. The hinges were strengthened and new endpapers were added when the spine was re-backed. There is some wear to the gilt edges. Faint occasional foxing and age toning, generally very clean and bright.
Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
