Pierre Bourdelle (French, 1903-1966)
Born the son of the great sculptor Antoine Bourdelle, Pierre Bourdelle went on to become an active sculptor and muralist in the United States. He completed works for a number of major railway lines. During World War II, Bourdelle served as a volunteer ambulance driver for the American Field Service in North Africa and Italy. The “War” portfolio deals with the reality that Bourdelle witnessed during his time in service.
Condition
Gift inscription on the front free flypage, “To Jane with all my heard and admiration JB Dec 16-45”. There is minor fading and scuffs to the covers, with one stain on the central front board. There is occasional faint toning and foxing on the far edges of some of the plates, not affecting the imagery. Otherwise very clean, in very good condition.
