Charles “Chuck” Martin Jones (1912 – 2000)

Critically acclaimed animation director and artist Chuck Jones created America’s favorite cartoon shorts including Looney Tunes and the Merrie Melodies film series. His sixty year long career left a permanent mark on the American art form of character and personality animation. His most famous characters include: Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner, Pepé Le Pew, Marvin the Martin, and he helped develop many more. Three of his cartoons were added to the US Film Registry, including: “Duck Amuck” (1953); “One Froggy Evening” (1955); and “What’s Opera Doc?” (1957).

Though he started his career as an ink washer, he quickly worked his way up to a position as an assistant animator at Warner Bros. Studios in 1933. He stayed there until he and a partner started a new studio, Sib Tower 12 Productions. Sib Tower 12 Productions was later integrated into MGM. After MGM closed their animation division, Jones reopened his own studio, Chuck Jones Enterprises. At Warner Bros., MGM, and on his own, Chuck Jones created entertainment with a heart. Jones was the type of man who always wore bow-ties for public appearances and was good friends with the real life characters, Ray Bradbury and Dr. Seuss.
