Original Edison Lamp Bulb, 1893 from Edison`s Lawyer Records of Famous Trial. The year 1893 was a momentous one for Thomas Edison because that year he was taken to court by one Henry Goebel. Goebel was a German watch maker and minor inventor who had come to New York in 1848, but had never mastered English or understood anything about patent regulations, He claimed that he had made a lamp embodying all the essential features of the Edison lamp as early as 1865. Goebel brought a number of his lamp bulbs to the trial as did Edison. After a great deal of testimony had been heard and the lamp bulbs from both sides had been exhibited, the judge concluded that Thomas Alva Edison was the true inventor of the incandescent light bulb and the rightful owner of the patent. The Edison lamp bulbs used in the case of which this was one were retained by Edison`s lawyer with records from the trial. Historic item from this prolific scientist and inventor.
