Buyer`s Premium 15% + VAT
Lots purchased online with the-saleroom.com will attract an additional charge for this service in the sum of 3% of the hammer price plus VAT at the rate imposed
Please note that 'card holder not present transactions' (i.e. payments by card over the telephone or via the-saleroom.com) are strictly limited to a maximum of £500 per transaction
Payments over £500 must be made by bank transfer (please contact us for our bank transfer details), cheque or cash.
Bank transfer charges are the responsibility of the purchaser.
Purchases will not be released from the saleroom until we are in receipt of cleared funds.
When the purchaser is collecting from the saleroom the original card used for payment will need to be produced.
If a third party is collecting on behalf of the purchaser we will require prior written authority, a copy of the invoice and ID of the third party collecting.
Shipping:
We are happy to offer customers a packing and postage service where we can. However, we recommend Mailboxes for the shipping of fragile ceramics, heavy items, paintings under glass etc. Contact Mailboxes Tel. No. 0191 222 0018. E: info@mbenewcastle.co.uk for a quote. As an example our minimum charges are: small jiffy bag - £10 Special Delivery. We do not take any responsibility for items lost or damaged when using Royal Mail and it would therefore be the customer’s responsibility to take any follow up actions.
Terms and Conditions
The Auctioneer
Means the firm Addisons of Barnard Castle, Auctioneers and Valuers, or Partners or employees thereof at the time of sale. The auctioneer acts only as an agent for the vendor. The auctioneer is not necessarily in a position to know the history of, or assess the quality of lots sold.
The Buyer
Means the highest bidder acknowledged as such by the auctioneer. All buyers must register before bidding for goods. If any dispute arises the auctioneer shall have absolute discretion to settle the matter. The auctioneer shall rule the bidding and no bidding shall be retracted. The auctioneer reserves the right to refuse any bid. The auctioneer reserves the right to bid on behalf of the vendors for any lot and to withdraw, consolidate or divide any lots..
Buyer’s Commission
15% of the hammer price plus VAT (but see the note below, “Online Bidding”)
V.A.T.
Lots on which Value Added Tax may be payable by the buyer on the hammer price are indicated by an * in the catalogue. The buyer shall pay any VAT that may be due on any amounts owed by the buyer at the rates prevailing on the day of auction.
Auctioneers Margin Scheme
The scheme allows auctioneers to sell items without VAT on the hammer price. An amount equivalent to VAT at the current rate is added to the buyer’s premium. Addisons cannot refund this amount. The VAT element will not be shown separately on the buyer’s invoice.
Payment
Cash, bankers draft, cheque supported by a valid guarantee card, bank transfer, credit cards (Visa and Mastercard) and debit cards are all accepted. Please note that there is a 2% surcharge plus VAT on all credit card transactions and a flat fee of £0.50 on all debit card transactions. All purchases must be paid for in full before release.

Ownership of purchase
The ownership of the lot(s) shall not pass to the buyer until the buyer has paid the auctioneers in full the total amount due and the auctioneers shall have applied payment to the lot(s).
Collection of Goods
Goods must be collected by the end of the second working day following the sale provided full payment has been made. If, after two working days, goods are not collected (other than by prior agreement) storage will be charged at the rate of £5.00 per lot per day for furniture and £3.00 per lot per day for all other items. Addisons assist with the loading and unloading of goods out of goodwill and will not be held responsible or liable for accidents or damage occurring.
Damage
If any damage is caused to any lot at the viewing or before, during or after the auction, such damage shall be made good by the person committing the damage (such damage to be assessed by the auctioneers who shall have absolute discretion).
Transfer of Risk
Each lot shall be the buyer’s sole risk from the fall of the hammer and shall be sold with all faults and imperfections, the auctioneers NOT being responsible for the correct description or authenticity of any lot and making no warranty whatsoever. The buyer is deemed to have inspected the lots and satisfied him or herself as to their condition and authenticity.
Online Bidding
Addisons can offer an online bidding service via the-saleroom.com for bidders who cannot attend the sale. Live online auctions allow you to watch the sale as it happens in real time and listen to the auctioneer via a live audio feed. To view the catalogue and register for online bidding please logon to www.the-saleroom.com/addisons.
In completing the bidder registration on www.the-saleroom.com and providing your credit card details and unless alternative arrangements are agreed with Addisons you
1. authorise Addisons of Barnard Castle, Auctioneers and Valuers, if they so wish, to charge the credit card given in part or full payment, including all fees, for items successfully purchased in the auction via the-saleroom.com, and
2. confirm that you are authorised to provide these credit card details to Addisons of Barnard Castle, Auctioneers and Valuers through www.the-saleroom.com and agree that Addisons of Barnard Castle, Auctioneers and Valuers are entitled to ship the goods to the card holder name and card holder address provided in fulfilment of the sale.
Please note that any bids made via the-saleroom.com live auction service will be subject to an additional 3% commission on the hammer price.
